Clear Thread Spool Storage

Having thread spools organized in a container that allows clearly seeing the spool colors was the objective of this project.
The second objective was doing it with little effort and readily available materials, tools and supplies.
As I no longer subscribe to paper magazines, I have several plastic magazine protective boxes I used as the base for this.

Materials used are:
1 12"(30.5 cm) x 9" (23 cm) x 7/8" (2.3 cm) hard plastic magazine protector
8 Bamboo BBQ skewers

Supplies:
1 Melting glue stick
1 1" masking tape roll

Tools:
1 Hot glue gun
1 Cable cutter or serrated knife

Place bamboo skewers (or 3/16" dowels) in box with thread spools (in this case, mostly 110 yd (100 m) Gütermann thread spools); giving the spools wiggle space.

Using the cable cutter or serrated knife, cut 8 pairs of bamboo skewers so that they fit inside the box. Lengths will vary depending on placement in box.

Once skewers are cut to length, keep ends from fraying by rolling ends with masking tape.
Join two skewers with masking tape.
These will be the walls between the spools.

Measure the distance between skewer walls using spools.
This design involved 4 skewer walls for 4 spool columns and one bobbin column.
Align the skewer pairs and glue them to the box using the hot glue gun.

Remove excessive hot glue. Let dry.
Put spools into box.
Enjoy.

To keep spools from getting misaligned, a small piece of foam can be put inside the empty slots.
Fits 45 spools and 14 bobbins.
