How to make a clay t-rex

Today I will be showing you how to make a clay t-rex.

The essential item is clay.

It is also useful to have a toothpick or cocktail stick (to create the fine details)

Supplies

The clay I used.

a toothpick

Basic Shapes

Firstly, split your clay onto two pieces (one bigger than the other), plus a bit extra for making the details.

The 2 main pieces of clay will be the jaw and the head.

Put the jaw (the smaller part ) to one side for a moment.

1) To start you will be using the bigger part of clay to make the head.

Squish the clay on either side of the middle back part of the head. Do this until it goes inwards. You will need a smooth part going down the top of your head

Eyes and Nose

2) Now, make two circular balls by rubbing your hands in a circle. Put these where the eye holes are. Use your toothpick and poke some pupils into it

3) Again, use your toothpick to carve out nostrils at the front of your dragon's head

Eyebrows!

4) Make some small cylinders out of clay. Put them onto your t-rex over where the eye holes curving with them.

At this point you can choose - Do you want an angry t-rex or a calm one?!

JAW(s)

5) Get your smaller piece of clay and push the middle outwards, but not too much,

6) At this point, you can add teeth, but I added mine later and the teeth won't be seen

The Clay Is Now Done

7) .Place the head on the jaw and voila!!

8) I put two large teeth pointing out the mouth by lifting the head up and placing them in

9) Now take the eyes out and leave it to dry. (This might be overnight or in the oven, depending on the clay - Read the packaging for instructions)

10) Cover your t-rex with black, I used a large paint brush to begin with and a small one for more intricate parts, such as the nose and teeth

Green or Red, or Well Whatever!

11) Wait for the paint to dry again. This may take at least an hour.

12) Once it is fully dry, paint it green, or a colour of your choice.

I made my own green out of brown and green.

Final Touches

13) Whilst the green paint is drying, paint the eyes. I did mine yellow and once the eyes had dried, added a finishing touch of black with a marker pen.

14) Wait for the green paint to dry and then paint the teeth white.

and now you are done. The perfect t-rex

Please share your t-rexs with me. I'd love to see them.
