Clay Rings Tutorial

IMG_8186.jpg

In this instructable, I will be teaching you how to make a ring made from air dry clay. I chose to use air dry clay because it is the most accessible, easy to manage and it is not too time consuming.

Supplies

The materials you will need...

  • Air dry clay (any color you want!)
  • Mod Podge (optional)
  • Anything to cut the clay with, I used a ruler
  • Measuring tape

Here are some Alternatives...

  • You could really use any clay
  • Instead of mod podge, you can use clear nail polish

Get Creative

To begin, you will want to think of a design. I will be making a marbled ring. You can do a totally different design, the same designs, or just mix and match the colors!

Start the Process

For my marbled ring, I chose the colors green and pink. I didn't have pink clay so I mixed my red clay with white, and then more white with green to make it more of a pastel color. Once you have gotten the color you wanted, you take both colors and mix them together. Make sure not to mix all the way! You should still be able to see both separate colors like in the image above.

Roll and Cut

Once you have half mixed the colors, take the clay and roll it out to however thick you want it to be. I rolled it out to be less than 1/2 an inch. You will then want to use the measuring tape to measure your finger to see how much you will want to cut the clay. Use the ruler, or a knife, to cut the clay into a strip. Make sure it is a tiny bit longer than it needs to be.

Wrap It Up

Take your strip of clay and wrap it around your finger so it fits. You will probably need to cut off the excess.

Patience.

Take it off your finger, make sure you are happy with the results! You will have to wait a bit, usually takes about a day or two. Once it is completely dry, cover it with your mod podge or nail polish. Once the coating is dry, wear it!
