Citrus and Mint Foot Scrub
In this Instructable I will be showing you how to create a beneficial salt scrub that not only can be used on the feet, but it can also be used on dry areas of skin that need a little care and attention.
As this is my first instructable I wouldn't mind some feedback on the over all make, please feel free to add comments. Also if you enjoyed reading, why not vote for me in the 'Feet' Contest, it would be much appreciated!
The Ingredients Benefits and Equipment
First off, gather all of your ingredients together.
You will need: Olive oil, this is what will soften your skin and make it feel all nice and well... soft.
Salt, the salt is what acts as the scrub, when using on your feet it will take away all the dead skin and leave them feeling silky smooth.
Menthol Vapour Rub, it can be beneficial as we all know when we have a blocked nose, however it all has great benefits when used on the feet, it soothes aching soles and I have also read that applying to the feet soothes harsh coughs?!?
Lemon/ Lime (I used both), citrus is good for you but its not just about the vitamin C inside of it, but lemons and limes also cleanse the body really well.
Mint, it gives a cool refreshing feeling when smelled, also its juice can soothe and calm skin that's itchy and irritated.
Now your equipment, a small bowl, a sharp knife, a teaspoon, a tablespoon, a grater, a chopping board and a jar that you can add your finished product to.
*you can alter the amount of ingredient you use in order to make more or less, I would say this mixture made about 200g of scrub
I decided to use table salt as I didn't want as rough texture to my feet, however feet free to change this and instead use coarse sea salt for a rougher texture.
Start Measuring
Measure out the salt, olive oil, and vapour rub and add it into the bowl.
I used these measurements: 5 tablespoons (tbsp) of Salt
1 tablespoon (tbsp) of oil
1 teaspoon (tsp) of vapour rub
Mix these ingredients together to form a crumble like texture.
The Citrus Element
Slice both your lemon and lime in half, carefully may I add ( you don't really want to cut your fingers, or get a squirt of lemon/ lime to the eye OUCH! )
Begining to Get Something
You can now measure out roughly 1 tablespoon of each fruit and add it to the starting mixture.
By this point you can add more salt to your own liking in order to make it more crumbly, I chose to add 3 more tablespoons of salt to mine as I wanted more of a rough texture rather than a paste.
Tip: if you want your scrub to smell even more refreshing and also look colourful you can zest the lemon and lime.
Getting Minty
Get yourself a sprig of mint leaves and finely chop them (again being careful with the knife)
Once you have chopped the mint leaved add them to your now minty, citrus menthol salt scrub and mix together, your scrub should now have some colour to it (yay to the aesthetics!)
Finishing It Off!
Get your jar and begin spooning the finished scrub into it, try not to throw it everywhere except the jar like I did... oops...
Hooray you have completed a soothing foot scrub that's going come to your aid when you have been on your feet all day and are in need of some tlc.
Enjoy your pamper time, and thank you for reading!
*This scrub should last around 2-3 weeks.
The Test
Instead of grossing you all out with feet, I decided to try this product out on my hands, this scrub really does work my hands felt soft and they smelt amazing afterwards, as you can see I only used a small amount and with this a little really does go a long way, well and truly impressed!!!
