Christmas Party Stockings

Sarah 2.jpg

This year, I decided to make some stockings to coordinate with my holiday sweater. These are very fast and easy to make. If you have a Dollar Tree near you, they will also be really cheap to decorate. I am hoping to make a fluffy skirt out of red and green tulle to pull the full outfit together. There was plenty of left overs for me to add to the skirt in the future or add more to my sweater. It could also be fun to have a stocking craft party with your friends if you didn't want leftovers!

Supplies

Here is a list of the supplies I used:

From the Dollar Tree

1 Package of Red Bows

1 Package of Green and Gold Bows

1 Package of Green and Red Pom Poms

1 Package Green Bells

1 Package of Green Gemstones

1 Package Mini Glitter Bows

From Micheal's Craft Store

1 Tube E6000

1 Package Red Multi-size Gemstones

Other Supplies

Wax Paper

Scissors

Green Fishnet Stockings

Red Waxed Thread

Set of Legs (yours, a friends or a mannequin will do)

If you don't have a Dollar Tree near by, places like Michael's, Joann's, Hobby Lobby and Walmart are good places to gather decorations for your stockings. You should be able to get red or green stockings from amazon. If you have a mall near by, Hot Topic usually has a variety of fishnet stockings available.

Note: I got my red waxed thread off of Amazon. I use it for leather crafting. You do not have to use it if you don't have a purpose for it. It runs around $6-7 for 284 yards. I like it because it is very durable and the waxs makes it hold knots well. You can use standard thread if you wish. If you do, I would suggest doubling the thread and doing one more extra knot for securing it.

Supplies:

1 Pair of Stockings

1 Set of Legs

Put the green stockings on a set of legs. They can be your own legs or a willing friends legs. If you happen to have a mannequin, you can use that as well. If you use a mannequin be extra cautious as you pull the stockings up over the leg support.

Supplies:

Wax Paper

Scissors

E6000

1 Package Red Bows

1 Package Green and Gold Bows

Start by cutting the wax paper into little squares approximately the size of the sticker square on the back of the bow. You will need one wax paper square for each bow you place on the stockings.

Place bows around on the stockings to get a rough idea of where you would like them.

Add a small dab of E6000 to the wax paper, slide the little square of wax paper under the fishnet with the glue facing up. Place the bow over the wax paper and hold for about 30 seconds.

Do this for all the bows to secure them in place.

Supplies:

1 Package Mini Glitter Bows

Red Waxed Thread

Scissors

Start by untwisting the silver tie. Yes, you could use this to attach it to the stockings but I personally don't enjoy getting stabbed by the little wires in the ties. If I was in a huge hurry to get these done I might have gone with it but it really doesn't take much time to switch it to something that wont potentially stab or scratch you.

Cut a length of waxed thread to replace the wire with. It is better to cut a little extra to make it easier for tying the knots.

Slide the bead off of the wire it came on and slide it into the middle of the waxed thread.

Place the bead over the center of the front side of the glitter bow. Flip the bow over with the bead and thread staying where you placed it.

Tie two basic knots to secure it in place.

Decide where you would like to glitter bow on the stockings and secure it in place by tying two knots around the stocking.

Trim away any extra waxed thread.

Do the same for the green glittered bows.

Supplies:

1 Package Pom Poms

Waxed Thread

Scissors

Cut a piece of waxed thread approximately 3-4 inches depending on the size of pom pom.

Tie a knot around the pom pom pulling it snug. Tie a second knot in the same spot again puling it snug.

Loop one side of the waxed thread around the stocking. Tie a knot and pull it tight. Tie a second knot at the same locations to secure it firmly in place.

Use a pair of scissors to remove any extra wax thread.

Do this for both the red and green pom poms in a variety of sizes.

Jingle Bells

Supplies:

1 Package of Bells

Waxed Thread

Scissors

Cut a piece of waxed thread approximately 3 inches long.

Slide the jingle bell onto the thread pulling it to the middle.

Attach the bell to the stocking by securing it with two knots like in previous steps.

Cut away any extra wax thread.

Supplies:

1 Package Red Gemstones

1 Package Green Gemstones

Wax Paper

Scissors

E6000**

Cut some wax paper into small pieces about the size of your gemstones.

Place the wax paper behind the fishnet tight.

Peel a gemstone from the sheet or remove it's sticker backing.

Hold the gemstone in place for about 15 seconds.

If there is any wax paper showing around the gemstone, trim it away with scissors.

** Use the E6000 to secure in place like in Step 3 Package Bows if they do not have strong sticker backing.
