Christening Flower Crown

This a crochet crown and very simple to make. You need to know the basics of crocheting alone.

The most wonderful thing about this pattern is you can change it to fit your baby's head circumference. I made this beauty for my friend's daughters christening function. She wanted a baby pink and white theme. Here I go... :)

Stitch

Used (US terms):

Chain (ch)

Slip stitch (sl st)

Single crochet (sc)

Half double crochet (hdc)

Double crochet (dc)

Treble crochet (Tr)

skip (sk)

Yarn Used:

Cotton yarn – White (A), Light Pink (B) 4 ply

Material:

Crochet hook: 4 mm

Stitch Markers Or Piece Of Scrap Yarn

Yarn/Embroidery Needle/Circular Needle

Pearl beads

Scissors

Glue

Always chain in multiples of 6 + 1

Please not here. The size of the crown will depend on the type of yarn or thread you use. I am using cotton yarn.

So for the size I am making, ch 66. Sl st to the first chain. - (66)

Rnd 1 : ch 1, sc across each stitch, sl st to the first sc stitch. - (66)

Rnd 2 - 3 : ch 1, sc across each stitch, sl st to the first sc stitch. - (66)

So you have a base right now for the crown. If you want a broader base you can go on for 1 more round.

Now for the final part the spikes.

So how do do that?

Here it is.

Rnd 4 : ch 1, * sc in next stitch, skip 2 stitches, shell in next stitch, skip 2 stitches *, Do * to * this around. You will get 11 spikes. Join with sl st to the first stitch,

Isn't that easy?

Note:

shell - 2 dc, 2 Tr, picot, 2 Tr, 2 dc in same stitch

picot - ch 3, Insert hook through front and back loop of previous stitch. Yarn over and pull through all the loops.

Just turn your crown around.

Join yarn at one of the stitches.

ch 1, sc around the stitches. Join with a sl st to the first sc.

This makes your crown sturdy.

It is good to block your crochet crown at this point.

Blocking a crochet or knit piece gives it shape and sets the stitches in that shape. It can also help smooth out wrinkles or crooked rows in a project.

So here I have used stiffening agent solution to give my crown shape and it can stand stiff.

Dip the crochet piece in stiffening solution.

Then place it on a towel or quick moisture absorbing material. Shape your crochet crown and let it dry. I may take 24 hours to completely dry.

These are simple 5 petal flowers. Make them in white and pink

Magic circle

10 sc in the Magic circle, sl st to the 1st sc

Rnd 1 : sl st in next stitch, ( ch 2, 2 dc, 1 hdc, ch 2, sl st ) in the same stitch, sl st to the next stitch.

Repeat * to * around.

You will get 5 petals.

Fasten off.

Add a pearl bead at the centre.

Attach your flowers to your crown
