Chocolate Silhouette Cupcake Toppers
In this instructable, I'll show you how to use chocolate, stencils, & acetate sheets to create unique cupcake toppers. These are perfect for an elegant party or a wedding!
The hummingbird stencil that I used was actually a wedding place card. It was perched on the rim of the water glass at each person's seat. I'm delighted that I was able to use it in a creative way since that day.
Ingredients & Supplies
To make these beautiful chocolate cupcake toppers, you will need:
- a stencil
- chocolate chips (semi-sweet chocolate chips are my favorite)
- acetate sheets (I found them at a baking store)
- piping bag or ziploc bag
and cupcakes ready for some decoration!
Prepare Chocolate Piping Bag
Melt some chocolate and fill a piping bag. I had a ziploc bag handy which works great and makes for easy clean-up. Then, use scissors to cut off a small corner of the bag.
Layer Acetate Sheet & Stencil
Place the acetate sheet over the stencil.
Outline Stencil W/ Chocolate
Begin piping! First, I outlined the hummingbird and added swirls.
Hint: Notice how the spirals connect to the outline? I did this for added robustness of the silhouette.
Fill in Details
Then I filled in its features. I used a toothpick to create texture for the hummingbird's belly.
Make More!
Slide the acetate sheet so that the stencil is below an empty portion, then make another one!
Note: I used the right hand side of the acetate sheet to practice piping and clean off the end of the piping bag when needed.
Experiment With Designs
Try different designs and widths of the piping bag.
Make plenty extra as some might break in the next step.
Let Cool & Remove From Acetate Sheet
Once you've finished piping, set them aside to cool. I placed mine in the refrigerator. Once cool, slowly peel back the acetate sheet and voilĂ ! A gorgeous chocolate silhouette!
Decorate
Place the chocolate silhouettes on top of your cupcakes and enjoy!
