Chocolate Drizzle Krispie Treats
Rice Krispie Treats have been a comfort food for me throughout my life. Following the directions on the back of the cereal box creates a fine treat, but if we tweak the recipe just a bit we can truly create a tasty treat that cannot be rivaled. I hope by following these instructions you can experience the bliss that is a premium Rice Krispie treat.
This Recipe is not my original creation, the credit goes to https://www.shugarysweets.com/perfect-rice-krispie-treats/. I do add to this recipe, but it’s only fair that I cite what I use as my basis.
Gather Ingredients and Tools
Please make sure you have the following list of ingredients:
- 6 tbsp. Butter
- 1 Bag of Marshmallows
- 1 tsp. Vanilla Extract
- 6 cups Rice Krispies Cereal
- 3 tbsp. Chocolate Chips
- 2 tsp. Vegetable Oil
The following kitchen tools are needed:
- Small sized bowl
- Baking Dish (Or other similar container to hold the Rice Krispies)
- Parchment paper/Wax paper for baking
- Large saucepan
- Small microwave-safe bowl/cup
Measure Out Rice Krispies and Marshmallows
Scoop out 6 cups of Rice Krispie Cereal and place them in a small bowl. Measure out 1 cup of marshmallows and place them in the bowl with the cereal. Set this aside, as you'll need it later.
Prepare Pan
Take your baking dish and line it with the parchment paper. This doesn’t need to look pretty, just be sure that there is enough parchment paper to completely cover all of the pan’s surface and sides.
Melt Butter and Marshmallows
Place the large saucepan on a stove with medium heat. Add 6 tablespoon of butter and stir occasionally to avoid burning. Once the butter has been melted, pour the rest of the bag of marshmallows into the saucepan. Stir until the marshmallows are melted.
Add Vanilla Extract and Rice Krispies
Remove the saucepan from heat and add 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract and stir. Then you’ll add the marshmallow and cereal mixture you set aside earlier and stir that in too. Because there is no heat, the mixture will begin to set quickly, so make sure to proceed to the next step.
Pour Mixture Into Pan
Using your spoon, pour and scrap the mixture from the saucepan into the parchment sheet lined baking pan. Be careful to use heat protection, as you are handling a hot pan. Use the spoon to gently smooth out the mixture so that it is even throughout the pan. Don’t press hard, simply glide the spoon over the mixture to even it out.
Prepare the Chocolate Drizzle
Add 3 tablespoons of chocolate chips and 1 teaspoon of cooking oil to a microwave safe bowl or cup. Stir together so that the chocolate chips are covered in the oil.
Melt Chocolate
Place the chocolate chips into the microwave for 30 seconds. Take them out and stir the chips in the bowl. Again, please use appropriate heat protection, depending on the bowl/cup you use it could get very hot. Repeat this step until your chocolate chips are a runny liquid.
Drizzle
Carefully drizzle the melted chocolate over the Rice Krispies using heat protection if necessary. There’s no limit to how much chocolate you can add on these, so if the amount of chocolate is not enough please go back to step 8 until the desired chocolate drizzle has been acquired.
Cool and Enjoy
After the chocolate has been drizzled, simply let the Rice Krispies rest so that they may cool down. I’ve found that placing them in the fridge for 40 minutes works the best, as the chocolate can take a minute to harden. After they have cooled, you can remove them from the pan using the wax paper and cut them to your liking. Enjoy!
