Chocolate Cream Pie

A family recipe that's over 100 years old. An easy recipe that satisfies any sweet tooth.

2 cups of milk
1/2 cup sugar
3 tablespoons cocoa powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
3 tablespoons corn starch
3 egg yolks
1 tablespoon butter
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 baked pastry shell

Meringue
3 egg whites
6 tablespoons of sugar

Boil the Milk

Boil 1 1/2 cups of the milk

Mix

Mix the sugar, cocoa, salt, cornstarch, and last 1/2 cup of milk together, stirring into the hot milk. Cook slowly until thickened, stirring constantly.

Add

Add the mixture slowly to the egg yolk and cook 1 minute longer. Then add the butter and vanilla.

Cool

Cool the mixture before putting it into the shell.

The Meringue

Add one egg white with two tablespoons of sugar one at a time. Using a hand mixer, mix until there is a light and fluffy consistency. Then spread on the surface on the surface of the pie.

Bake the Pie

Bake at 325 degrees for 12 minutes, or until light brown on top.
