Chocolate Covered Grapes

What do you do when the strawberry crop fails before valentines day? For a shop in Texas* once upon a time, the answer was you dip grapes instead!

My boyfriend introduced me to chocolate covered grapes a few years ago and we've been making them since. This is how I make them.

*I am not affiliated with the shop, nor do I know the name. If you know the name let me know, as I would love to give them credit for the idea!

Supplies

  • Green Grapes
  • Dark chocolate-I used a chocolate bar from Aldi but you can use chips, bakers chocolate or anything else
  • Skewer- I used a metal marshmallow skewer
  • Small microwave-safe bowl
  • Butter knife
  • Wax or parchment paper
  • Flat plate or cookie sheet-should fit in your fridge or freezer

Grape Prep

Pull grapes off their stems and rinse.

Dry grapes and let sit on towel.

Lay a sheet of wax or parchment paper on a flat plate or pan.

Break apart your chocolate bar and add to a microwave bowl.

Microwave for 20 seconds and stir.

Continue microwaving in increments of 5-10 seconds until there are only a couple lumps, stir between heating.

Once there are only a couple lumps left, stir until smooth.

Stab one grape at a time with your marshmallow skewer. I like to stab them through where the grape was attached to the stem and so the tip of the skewer just barely pokes through the opposite side of the grape.

Dip in chocolate and swirl around to cover completely. If your chocolate doesn't cover your grape completely try tipping your bowl or drizzling chocolate over it with a knife.

Let excess chocolate drip off for a few seconds.

When placing grapes leave a little space between so they don't roll into each other.

To place them cleanly, set the grape down with the skewer and use your butter knife to gently hold the grape in place, at the base of the skewer, while you remove the skewer.

Chill

Let the chocolate covered grapes chill in the fridge or freezer until chocolate sets before serving.

Store in fridge to keep chocolate from melting.
