Chocolate Buns
These chocolate buns are an easy recipe to make and a great way to start the day. Eat them warm with butter on any occasion!
Ingredients
- 7g of dry yeast
- 1 1/2 cups of milk
- 1/4 cup of caster sugar
- 4 cups of plain flour
- 1/2 cup of cocoa powder
- 60g butter, softened
- 1 egg
- 1/2 cup chocolate chips
Heat the Milk
Heat the 1 1/2 cups of milk in the microwave, for approx. 30 seconds.
The time will depend on your microwave
Add Yeast and Sugar to the Milk
Add the yeast and 1 tablespoon of sugar to the warmed milk. Mix until it is dissolved. Cover and leave the mix out in a warm area for 10 minutes until frothy. It should look as seen in the pictures above.
Mix the Dry Ingredients
Place the 4 cups of flour in a bowl and add the cocoa powder in
Add the Butter
Add 60 grams of butter into the flour mix and rub in using your hands
Add Yeast, Egg and Sugar
Add the beaten egg, proved yeast and the rest of the sugar to the mixture. Mix until a dough forms.
Knead the Dough
Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface as shown above for 5 minutes.
Leave the Dough
Place the dough in a bowl and cover it with glad wrap. Leave it in a warm place for 10-15 minutes or until it has doubled in size.
Knead in the Chocolate Chips
Make an indent in the dough and place the chocolate chips in it. Cover the chips with the dough and knead until they are mixed into the dough.
Cut the Dough
Place the dough on a lightly floured surface. Cut the dough into 8 equal pieces. I did this by cutting the dough into halves until I had 8 pieces.
Once you have the pieces, shape the dough into round balls.
Leave Them to Rise
Place the pieces of dough into the a lightly oiled tin as shown in the pictures above and leave them in a warm place for a further 30 minutes to rise.
Cooking the Buns
Put them in the oven at a temperature of 180 °C for 30 minutes.
