Place the ribs on a large piece of freezer paper. Generously sprinkle the spice all over and on all sides of the raw ribs.

If you wear food service gloves, you don't even need to touch the raw meet.

Cook the Ribs in Slow Cooker

Place the ribs in slow-cooker coiled along the wall.

Set the slow cooker at high if you want it be done in about 4 hours, at low in about 6 hours.

One tip though: There isn't huge difference of the taste of the meat between cooked on low and high. I did find every time there is a lot water at the bottom of the cooker when cooked on high. Personally I like the meat cooked on low.

Puree all sauce ingredients in a food processor or blender.

Optimally strain to remove the blackberry seeds. Use the strained sauce and discard the seeds left on top of the strainer.

I usually make a batch that's 3 or 4 times of the quantity listed in this recipe (adapted from Closet Cooking).

Pour the remaining sauce in popsicle molds and freeze them up for use later. If you have young kids, just let them know those are BBQ sauce, not popsicles.

Broil and Enjoy

Start your oven on broil High.

The ribs can be enjoyed already when done in slow cooker.

It can be used to make pulled pork with your favorite BBQ sauce. In this case, mine is Chinese Five Spice Blackberry Hoisin Sauce . Transfer the ribs from slow cooker to the cast iron pan.

Glaze the ribs with the BBQ sauce on one side and broil for 5-8 minutes or until the sauce is bubbling.

Glaze the ribs with the BBQ sauce on the other side and broil for another 5-8 minutes or until the sauce is bubbling, and just starting to char.

Enjoy! Enjoy!
