Chin Controlled Accessible Gaming

We designed a set of attachments for the PlayStation Access controller that lets users control the joystick using only their chin; ideal for players with limited hand or arm mobility.

The controller is secured to a custom mount, which is attached to a vest for stability. The original joystick cap is removed and replaced with a 3D-printed chin-operated adapter, available in different shapes and sizes to match user preference and comfort.

1 x Steel Hex Bolt M6x60mm

1 x Steel Washer ⌀ 6mm

1 x Wingnut M6

2 x 10-24 Bolts

1 x 1/4-20 Bolt

Thin EVA foam sheet

Options for the vest

We have 2 versions for the vest.

One you can buy; any vest with a standard camera mount. Look for an attachment piece on it like in the picture.

The other one; you can make it yourself!

You'll need to laser cut a piece(you can find the file attached) preferably out of an ABS sheet.

Afterwards you can optionally cut pieces out of foam and glue it on the other side for padding.

Or even laser cut and attach a piece of cloth to the front for aesthetics like we have.

You'll also needs straps of your preference to attach it on the body.

We used ABS to 3D print the pieces. ABS makes sure that the pieces are strong enough. You could also use PETG, or PLA but keep it mind that they are not as strong as ABS so they are more prone to breaking.

We first print these 3 pieces to create the arm that holds the access controller.

You can skip the "Chest Piece Holder" piece if you opted to buying the vest with the same mount instead of making the vest.

The print setting are 4 walls at 25% gyroid infill with tree supports. Raft is turned on at 3 layers for better adhesion to the bed with ABS. You can see both the settings and print orientations on the attached images.

3D Printing Chin Attachments

You can choose to pint one or multiple of the chin attachments of your liking.

They use the same print setting and material as step 1.

You can see the preferable print orientations on the images.

The supports and the rafts are of course cleaned out after the prints are ready.

Laser Cutting EVA Foam for Chin Support Padding

Thin EVA foam pieces can be laser cut(or by hand after creating a template) for padding.

The pieces are then glued on the chin attachments.

Laser Cutting the Vest

Self made vest.png

Do this step only if you are making your own vest and not buying a vest with the mount.

Laser cut the vest out of a minimum 3mm ABS sheet with the given file.

Optionally you can also cut foam pieces for the back of the vest as padding.

And you could also cut some cloth to add to the front for aesthetic purposes like we have.

You can glue both optional pieces on opposite sides of the vest after cutting.

Putting on the Straps

Attach the straps to the cuts on the self-made vest(or to the attachment point on the bough vest). Get them to loop in a way so that they can be tightened and attached together at your back or sides.

Assembling the Chest Piece Holder

Glue the printed "chest piece holder" piece to the hole in the middle on the self-made vest.

If you bought the vest you should already have this attachment and do not need to glue anything on the vest.

Assembling the Controller Base

Put the chest piece and the controller base as shown in the image. Then bolt and tighten them together using the M6 hex bolt, the 6mm washer and the 6mm wingnut.
