Cheese scones are my husband's favourite snack - and he loves chilli with everything. So I decided to try combining them. And they came out superbly -he ate four!

Ingredients

175 g self-raising flour
Half a teaspoon salt
Half a teaspoon mustard powder (or any mustard)
25 g butter
100 g grated cheddar cheese
1egg
3 tablespoons yogurt or milk
Chopped red chilli to taste (I used 2 large mild chillies)
Milk to glaze

Make the Dough

Mix the dry ingredients and rub in the butter until no lumps remain. Mix in most of the cheese and most of the chilli, saving a bit of each for topping the scones.
Add the egg and yogurt and mix to a sticky dough.

Shape the Scones

Put the dough on a floured board and pat into a square shape about 2cm thick. Cut into 8 triangles. Put on a baking tray lined with parchment or foil. Brush with milk, sprinkle with cheese and chilli.
