Chic Guitar Pedal Light Switch
Hi there and welcome back to another Ben Builds project!
In this Instructable, I will be showing you how to make a chic light switch from an old guitar pedal and some other supplies.
Lets get started!
Watch the Video
Take a look at the video above and watch the full process. If you are still having trouble figuring it out, read on for more detailed instructions.
Find a Suitable Enclosure
Find an enclosure that you want to use to house all of the parts. It needs to be big enough to hold a relay, a power supply, the latching circuit, and a terminal strip. Mine came from an old motor controller. I removed the circuit board. It should also be big enough to cover a single electrical box on the wall.
Gather Parts and Circuits
You are going to need:
1 SPDT Relay
1 Latching Circuit - See how to build that here: https://youtu.be/ooXA2mI4JxQ
1 12v 1A Power Supply
1 Terminal Strip
+ Tools
Paint the Guitar Pedal
I gave my guitar pedal a coat of black and a silver lightning bolt with a red border.
Prepare the Relay
Solder to the common terminal and the NO (Normally Open) contact of the relay. This makes it so that when the switch is pressed, the relay closes and energizes the lights.
Build the System
This is the major step. Follow the schematic above and hook up AC IN and AC OUT very carefully, making sure that the power isn't energized. You wouldn't want to kill yourself. Fit it all in the box and give it a test.
If you did it right, the lights should come on when you push the switch, and stay on until you push it again.
Prepare the Wall
Using a screwdriver, I removed the light switch and disconnected it. I reconnected the AC wires to the box I made and screwed and glued the box to the wall.
Done!
This is what my setup looked like when done. The black box and switch chic guitar switch have replaced the boring light switch that once was.
I hope you enjoyed my project and if you have any questions, feel free to leave a comment here on on my YouTube video. I make every effort to answer EVERY question, no matter how silly you may think it is!
