Chevron Friendship Bracelets

Add pizzazz to your wrists with these cute DIY bracelets! With infinite color combinations, you can customize thousands of your own unique Chevron Friendship Bracelets.

Make one for a friend or make one for yourself. Even better, make them with friends! You'll be addicted in no time!

Materials

1 - Materials.jpg
  • 4 strands of embroidery floss 3-4 feet long
  • Scissors
  • Tape
  • Water Bottle (Optional)

*Time: 1-2 hours

Starting the Bracelet

  1. Choose the four colors you want in your bracelet
  2. Pick up 3 of the strands, and fold them in half
  3. Make a loop about 1" long and tie it in a knot

The Braid

  1. Tape the loop to a water bottle or hard surface to keep it secure
  2. Divide strands by color
  3. Braid these down approximately one inch
  4. Fold your fourth strand in half and tie it in with the others at the end of the braid
  5. Secure with a knot

Arranging Your Pattern

  1. Separate all strands of embroidery floss
  2. Arrange in your desired pattern order on the left half
  3. Mirror this pattern on the right half
  4. Mentally number strands as shown above

Row 1 Left Side

  1. Tie Strand 1 over Strand 2
    • Starting on the left, cross Strand 1 over Strand 2
      • Tip: It should look like the number '4'
    • Bring Strand 1 behind Strand 2 and pull up through the hole
    • Keeping Strand 2 straight, tighten the knot by pulling Strand 1 all the way up to the top
    • Repeat this knot again
      • Tip: If you forget if you've tied 2 knots or not, look on the backside, and you'll be able to tell
  2. Tie Strand 1 over Strand 3
    • Repeat above instructions, replacing Strand 2 with Strand 3
  3. Tie Strand 1 over Strand 4
    • Repeat above instructions, this time with Strand 4

Row 1 Right Side

  1. Tie Strand 1 over Strand 2
    • Similarly to step 5, cross Strand 1 over Strand 2
      • Tip: From this side, it will look like a backwards number '4'
    • Pull strand 1 under Strand 2 and up through the hole
    • Keeping Strand 2 straight, tighten the knot by pulling Strand 1
    • Repeat this knot again
  2. Tie Strand 1 over Strand 3
    • Repeat above instructions for Strand 3
  3. Tie Strand 1 over Strand 4
    • Repeat above instructions for Strand 4
  4. Finish This Row
    • Both Strand 1's from the left and right should be in the middle
    • Tie them together in a knot
    • Make it a double knot and pull tight

Add All Rows of First Sequence

  1. Following the same process as Steps 5 and 6, repeat with Strand 2
    • The order of the strands you tie Strand 2 over will be 3, 4, 1
    • Note: You will always start your row with the outside strand and tie each side toward the middle
    • Tip: Do not forget that each tie requires 2 knots
  2. Repeat with Strand 3, tying over 4, 1, 2
  3. Repeat with Strand 4, tying over 1, 2, 3

Add As Many Rows As You Want

  1. After one time through the sequence, your strands should be ordered 1, 2, 3, 4, 4, 3, 2, 1 again.
  2. Repeat Steps 5-7 for as many times needed
  3. Stop when you want the chevron pattern to end
  • Tip: Periodically measure how the bracelet fits around a wrist
  • Tip: Stop before it makes a complete revolution

Finishing the Bracelet

  1. Single out 3 colors to keep like the start of the bracelet
  2. Tie and cut off your fourth strand on the backside of the bracelet
  3. Tie remaining strands into a knot
  4. Separate by color and braid like Step 3
  5. Stop braiding and tie off with a knot when end of braid aligns with top of loop comfortably around your wrist
  6. Separate individual strands into 2 groups, each containing one of each color
  7. Braid these two "tails" as long as you want
    • Tip: They should be at least 1.5" long to have enough room to tie on the wearer's wrist
  8. Secure with a knot at the end and cut off any extra string

You're Done - Put It On!

  1. Give your bracelet to a friend or keep it for yourself
  2. Tie it on a wrist!
  • Tip: Have a friend help if you can't tie it yourself
