In this lesson, you will learn to design a traditional chess pawn!

Let's Get Building!

We need a shape to start with. Let's start building!

Instructions

  1. Drag a cylinder shape to the workplane.

Adjust the Height

Let's adjust the height.

Instructions

  1. Scale it smaller to a height of 3mm.

Add a Workplane

Let's add a new workplane.

Instructions

  1. Drag a Workplane to the top of the cylinder. (Shortcut = W)

Grab Another Shape

Let's add a cone this time.

Instructions

  1. Drag a cone shape to the top of the cylinder.
  2. The new shape will land on the workplane you just created.

Make It a Bit Shorter

Scale shape to be a bit shorter.

Instructions

  1. Scale the shape shorter to a height of 11mm.

Add a Sphere Shape

Add a sphere shape to the workplane.

Instructions

  1. Drag a sphere shape to the workplane.

Squish It!

Let's make the sphere a little smaller and squish it.

Instructions

  1. Scale the sphere to a diameter of 18mm.
  2. Squish it! Scale it shorter to a height of 5mm.
  3. Move it to the target area in orange.

Add Another Cone Shape

Let's add a cone shape.

Instructions

  1. Drag a cone shape to the workplane.

Tweak the Cone

Let's adjust the shape of the cone.

Instructions

  1. Scale it to a height of 28mm.
  2. Scale it smaller to a diameter of 14mm.

Position the Cone

Let's position the cone.

Instructions

  1. Move the cone to the target orange area.
  2. Lift the the cone 3mm off the workplane.

Add Another Cone

You will need another cone.

Instructions

  1. Drag another cone to the target area in orange.

Size the Cone

You will need to adjust the size of the cone.

Instructions

  1. Scale it to a diameter of 12mm.
  2. Scale it taller to a height of 19mm.

Flip the Cone

Rotate and position the cone.

Instructions

  1. Rotate the cone 180 degrees.
  2. Move it to the target area in orange.

Add a New Workplane

Let's move the workplane.

Instructions

  1. Drag a workplane to the top of the cone. (which is really the bottom of the cone you just flipped)

Add a Sphere

Add another sphere to the workplane.

Instructions

  1. Drag a sphere shape to the workplane.

Size the Sphere

Let's get the sphere sized right.

Instructions

  1. Scale the sphere to 8x8x8mm.
  2. Tip: Holding shift on the keyboard will scale the shape in all directions.

Reset the Workplane

Let's clear or reset the workplane.

Instructions

  1. Drag a workplane to the original location of the workplane.
  2. Tip: Place the workplane anywhere, except on a shape to reset it.

Align the Shapes

If you didn't keep everything perfectly aligned, that's ok!

You can align the shapes now.

Instructions

  1. Select all the shapes.
  2. Click the Align button on the menu.
  3. Align the shapes to the middle on the front and side.

Group the Shapes

Select all the shapes and group them.

Instructions

  1. Select all the shapes.
  2. Click the Group button on the menu.
  3. Tip: You will know if the Group action worked if all the shapes all become the same color.
