I've always loved Oswald eye clocks - they're just so eye-catching! They use one eye to display the hours and the other for the minutes.

It figured out I could recreate them myself using two off-the-shelf clock mechanisms.

Supplies

  • 2 Clock mechanisms
  • Wood/acrylic/plasterboard for the face
  • Paint
  • Glue/double sided tape

Cut the Face

I used Inkscape to convert an image into a design I could laser cut.

You can make your own character, the sky is the limit here, just make sure that you have enough space between the eyes for your clock mechanisms.

Since the design is already engraved, all you need to do is remember your kindergarten lessons and paint inside the lines.

Attach the Eyes to the Clock Hands

Attach one eye to the hour hand, and the other to the minute hand.

I used double sided tape for this step.

I bought very cheap clocks, which had many reviews complaining that the hands that are made of bendable metal. This was perfect for my project, since I could bend the hands over, and glue the eyes to the hands.

Glue the Clock Mechanism to the Back of the Face

I had to glue some spacers between the mechanism and the back of the face to make sure the eyes don't stick out too far.

Attach the Clock Hands (with Eyes Attached) to the Clock Mechanism

On my clock, the left eye shows the hours, and the right shows the minutes
