Cherri Bomb Hazbin Hotel Cosplay

cherri2.jpg

Hello! This is a costume tutorial for Cherri Bomb from the dark comedy animation, Hazbin Hotel! Costumes from this show are popular, but expensive and can be complicated to make from scratch, so here is how I made mine from items of clothing/accessories that I either had already or bought for very cheap prices. I hope you find this useful!

-Black stockings or leggings

-White blonde wig

-Red or pink hair dye

-Black arm warmers

-A plastic water bottle

-Black suspender or belt

-Red nail varnish

Make the Main Outfit

First, I cut the sleeves off the red t-shirt, then cut it in half, and trimmed it according to my body proportions. The top half will be the shirt, the bottom half will be the skirt. Snip the bottom of each piece as much as you want to recreate Cherri's distressed clothing. With a black marker, draw an X shape on the left hand side of the shirt. Cut the shoulder off the left hand side of the shirt. For the skirt buttons, I took the easy way out and taped two small circles of white paper to the front of the skirt, but I don't recommend that you do the same, as it doesn't look as great in real life as it does on camera. Instead, you could sew two circles of white felt on the front of the skirt.

Making the Wig

For the wig, I used an old wig for Runa Yomozuki from Kakegurui. I bought some reddish pink hair dye from my local bargain store and dip-dyed the wig. I tried to create a climbing effect, since I thought it would fit in with Cherri's style. Before dyeing the wig, I gave it a thorough wash and detangle, and if you are using a wig that you already own, I suggest you do the same. If this is your first time using hair dye, I recommend that you have someone experienced help you. I found that applying a small amount of dye on the bottom of the fringe looked great, be sure to try that. Always protect all the furniture, walls, floor, and your clothes before dyeing the wig, as dip-dyeing can be a messy job. Also, don't forget to wear disposable gloves. I left the wig to dry and the dye to set in overnight and then gave it another thorough detangle. When the wig is ready, tie a ponytail using a little of the hair with a black hair tie, scrunchie, or hair donut.

Making the Eye & Bomb(s)

To make the eye, use a plastic water bottle (required shape pictured). Cut the round portion off the rest of the bottle, and cut the nozzle off that. Using red nail varnish, paint the entire plastic shape. This way, unlike using paint, for example, wearing the eye to conventions etc will be easier as you can see out of it. When the nail varnish is completely dry, use some strips of black tape (or strips of black fabric attached to double sided tape) for Cherri's eye makeup and stick two to the top and two to the bottom of the plastic shape. If you like, you can glue some false eyelashes to the bottom strip as well. Cut two short, thin strips of yellow ribbon or tape and attach to the centre of the eye. For the bomb, I painted a white table tennis ball red and drew a skull shape with a black marker. However, I realise now that this isn't the best way that I could have done this. An alternative (and probably more effective) way to do this would be cutting the string off a Christmas bauble decoration, re-painting it red and black, and drawing the skull shape. Use whatever way you think will work though! Here is a tutorial for making the bombs (in two parts) https://vm.tiktok.com/ZMRUt8XMe/ https://vm.tiktok.com/ZMRUtPW6M/

Gathering Accessories

This is the fun part! Cherri's outfit would look great with any punk/rock accessories, and you can pick whichever ones you like for your costume, but here are the ones that I used for mine. For her gloves, I used light pink body paint to make stripes and a heart on my left arm, and on my right, I used a black fishnet arm warmer, but a regular black arm warmer that can be easily cut from a sleeve or bought cheaply would be even more accurate. Instead of using suspenders, I used a thin, black belt from my Ibuki Mioda cosplay (Dangan-Ronpa) and tucked it into the skirt. With black leggings or stockings, cut irregular holes on the legs. Since I don't have red shoes or boots, I wore black lace up boots and a pink and white striped knee sock on my left leg for footwear. If you want to, you can make Cherri's fur jacket from the Addict music video. Cut the sleeves off a regular pink or white mohair jacket, and, with a red marker, write Cherri's name and draw a few cherries.

Wearing/putting Together the Costume

Now that you have all the desired components of the costume, it's time to try it out! If you are wearing stockings instead of leggings, wear black shorts underneath the skirt to create the illusion of leggings. Wear a black bralette or crop top underneath the shirt, with the strap showing on the left shoulder. Wear two wig caps with the wig in case the dye stains your real hair. Make sure you have left the nail varnish on the eye for 1-2 days so that the chemical fumes don't damage your eyes.
