Using the extremely easy to use Cheng ShapeCrete, this instructable will show you how to make a simple face / mask type decoration for your home (great for placing out in the yard for Halloween too)!

Tools and Materials

Tools and Materials

  • Cheng ShapeCrete
  • Bucket
  • 2032 Battery
  • LED (we used a 4V / 10mAh one as it made it as easy as just sliding the battery between the leads without fear of blowing the LED)
  • Clip to hold battery to LED

Mix the Crete and Create the Face

In a bucket, mix your desired amount of ShapeCrete, making sure to follow the directions on the container. Also, it's worth noting you will want to make sure the consistency is nice and thick.

Take the ShapeCrete and place it on a piece of cardboard that you don't mind disposing of later (as it will ruin it when it pulls the moisture from the ShapeCrete.

What to do next? Well, make a face of course! Do whatever you like, just make sure you poke some holes in it. We want somewhere we will be able to see the LEDs when they are lit. You don't need the holes to be too large but about finger poke size seemed to do well.

Light It Up!

After your creation has dried, it's time to light it up. You don't need to worry about anything too fancy as far as connecting the LED to the ShapeCrete creation. In this case, we connected the LED with the long lead to the positive side of the battery and the short side to the negative, then we held it in place with a binder clip. From there, we actually ended up using a piece of duck tape to keep it on the back. We placed it right in the center of the back and placed it outside in the garden.

We plan to put them out each night for the month of October as they make a nice addition to the Halloween decorations.
