Cheese Straws - Variations!

I'm sure many of you would have heard of 'Cheese Straws' in fact...most of your holidays would have been incomplete without them!
Well...I thought to try and make some...and in the process to try different variations of it ...to just experiment and check and see the tastes!

So let me walk you through my experiments!

Basic Ingredients

Ingredients

100g flour
100g cheese grated
50 g butter
1 egg beaten
1 pinch of salt
chilli powder / mustard

Making the Basic Cheese Straw Dough

Mix flour and softened butter.
Then mix the grated cheese
mix egg with salt and chilli powder according to your taste.
add the egg mixture to the dough and knead and make a soft dough.
roll out the cheese dough on a floured surface.

Onion Cheese Straw

finely chop some onions and soften them by frying.
Mix with basic cheese straw dough appropriate amount of  softened onions.
roll out dough and cut strips...twist them slightly and place in baking tray and bake!

Crunchy Crispy Cheese Straw

Take your basic cheese straw dough and make small sausages by rolling small balls into strips.
Dip them in well beaten egg
Then cover them with dried bread crumbs.
Deep fry em!

Cheesy Cheese Straw

Roll out your cheese dough on a floured surface and  place a strip of your favorite cheese.
Roll and cover the cheese up
Cut small tubes and bake!

Savory Cheese Straw

For this you must make your favorite filling!
mine is this  or my sisters filling from Savory Petit Four  ( we were both doing our instructables together and I used some of her leftover filling!)

Roll out your cheese dough on a floured surface and  place a strip of your favorite filling.
Roll and cover the filling up
Cut small tubes and bake!

The Verdict??

Which is better??
I can't say! for all in my family had different opinions!
I liked the onion flavor which gave it a definite Italian twist :-)
But then I liked the drippy cheesy straw too!!!
My daughter and husband loved the savory cheese straw ....and my son's loved the crunchy crispy straw!!
