Cheese Filled Honey Comb Treats
These treats are a highlight to anyone's days. They are sweet, fluffy, cheese filled, honey glazed treats. They are also much better than purchasing a treat from outside because you know what it contains and is much healthier. Just FYI, this contains less than a TBSP of sugar but it is sooo sweet because of the honey. They are also so easy and fun to make!
Gather Your Ingredients
For these YUMMY treats you will need:
*1 stick of butter (You will not need it all)
*1 cup of milk (lukewarm, between 100-115 degrees F)
*1 TBSP of yeast
*Cream Cheese (Alot)
*Cardamom (For taste) (As much as you like)
*1 egg
*Small pinch of salt
*1 TBSP of sugar
*2 Cups of flour (extra for dusting)
*OPTIONAL- Powdered Sugar for Decoration
*Stand Mixer or Mixing Bowl (I am using Stand Mixer)
*Tray
Lukewarm Milk
Heat your 1 Cup of milk on the stove until it reaches about 100-115 degrees F. If you do not have a thermometer then feel it on your wrist until it feels warm like you would drink. Make sure it is not cold or it wont activate the yeast and not to hot so it doesn't kill the yeast. Add it directly to your mixing bowl.
Add Yeast
Add the yeast to the lukewarm milk. Mix the yeast until it has almost fully dissolved. Leave it for about 5-10 minutes off to the side.
Add Egg
Add the egg to the yeast and milk and mix well until you have a very light beige color.
DO NOT EAT RAW BATTER!!
Cardamom
This cardamom will add a huge burst of flavor to the food and smell. You can use powdered cardamom or you can crush the cardamom and take the pieces inside the seed.
Flour
Add the 2 Cups of flour while you (or the stand mixer) mix slowly. Then add the cardamom. Mix it for about 2-3 minutes. After it has formed into a ball play with it for a while (with butter all over your hands) but don't over mix it or it wont be as fluffy. Then cover it with plastic wrap for about 2 hours or until it doubles its size. (The longer you leave it the fluffier it will be making the finished treat softer)
Making the Honeycomb Pieces
When the dough has doubled make equal sized pieces of dough, trying to fill you pan. (You may need more than one pan to fit it all) Take one of the pieces and press it out with your fingers until it is a flat circle that is a couple of millimeters thick and about 2-2.5 inches. Then fill it with cream cheese and close it so it becomes a circle. This step is easy but can take a while depending on how fast you are.
Bake
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and then bake it for 15-20 minutes depending on you oven or until golden brown from the top. Put it on middle rack when baking.
Finished Product From Oven
Take the honeycomb out when it looks like the picture above.
Making It Shiny!
This step is optional. You do not have to add the honey or the butter but the honey is what gives it its name and makes it sweet.
1. Put the butter all over the pieces by taking the stick of butter and melting it right above the hot honeycomb (right after it has been taken out of the oven).
2. Take some (or alot :)) of honey and then spread it all over the treat right after you added the butter.
Bon Appetit!
You can decorate by adding powdered sugar or just keep it plain. This can be eaten either hot or cold and with almost any drink at any time. It is perfect for any occasion and it is also healthy. Dont forget to click the 'Vote' button before you exit!!
