Cheese Cayenne Twist Sticks
This is my recipie for Cheese Cayenne Twist Sticks. This is for the times when you want something hot and cheesy. It´s really easy to make and you get the perfect snack!
What You Need
Here is what you need:
- puff pastry
- cayenne pepper
- salt and pepper
- egg
- cheese
Egg Mix
Preheat the oven to 220°C / 420°F.
I would recomend to make this already on the rack. Put the pastry on a parchment paper on an oven rack. That saves some time and you don´t need to clean up that much once your done :)
Break one egg open and mix it with a fork. Spread it on the pastry.
Add Stuff
Add some salt and pepper and the cayenne pepper on the puff pastry. (Be careful with that, cayenne pepper is very hot. If you like it hot then put some more on it. Everyone esle will be fine with 1 to 2 teaspoons.)
Grate the cheese and spread it generously.
Twist It
Cut the pastry layer horizontally into two or three big parts depending on how long your cheese twists should be, (remember they rise once you bake them), and cut them vertically into smaller rectangles (about 1x7cm).
Now it gets messy. Wash your hands and have a cloth ready befor you do the next thing. I had cayenne pepper fingers with egg and cheese after I was done, so take precautions!
Now hold one sting with both hands and twist one end to the left and the other end to the right. Do that with every string (picture 3). Lay them with a bit of space between each on of them on your rack.
Plan B: If you have another puff pastry you can lay that on top of the other and then cut it into strings, this leads to bigger strings and it is not that messy when you twist it.
Bake It
Before you put the rack into your oven make sure it is has reached the right temperature (220°C/420°F). Now bake it for 7 to 10 minutes or until they are golden-brown. Depending on your oven the baking time can differ.
