Cheese Bird in a Nest

This is a cute cheesy bird sitting on his nest.

You will require a variety of different cheeses, a pair of scissors, a knife and some cocktail sticks to complete this item.

I used the following cheeses

Strings and things cheese for the nest

Cheddar cheese for the main body and head

Smoked cheese skin for the eyes

Edam Skin for the beak

Processed cheese slices for the feathers and wings

The first step is to make the nest. You will need to make a plat of 3 pieces of string cheese and place into a circle, this gives you the main shape of the nest. Then simply add to the nest using the other pieces to give it a base and to strengthen the sides of the nest. This should end up looking like picture 3.

You will need to cut two cubes of cheese for the body. I used cheddar for this as it is quite pliable. One cube for the head ( smaller ) one cube for the body.

Once you have your cubes trim the edges off with a knife and roll the in your hands until they are rounded in shape.

Put the head to one side and start work on the body.

Take the slice of processed cheese and cut one rectangle which is big enough to cover the chest of the birds body, wrap it round the front of the ball and squeeze to secure.

Then cut long triangles of processed cheese to make feathers and wings of bird and attach these by squeezing them gently into place. You should end up with something that looks similar to picture 4

To attach the head to body, beak and the eyes you will need to use wooden cocktail sticks.

Cut one longer one for the head and three smaller ones for the eyes and beak.

Then pull a small piece of skin from a smoked chees and make two little eyes from it with the scissors .They are very small so you have to do this very carefully. Turn them upside down and press the pointy end of a smaller piece of cocktail stick. Take this and press into the head so that the eye is secured. Doo this again for the other eye.

Make a beak by using the skin from a piece of edam cheese and cut a diamond shape and fold in half. Press the small cocktail stick through the middle and attach it to the head. You can bend the beak down slightly to cover the end of the cocktail stick if it is sticking out a little.

Gently press the larger cocktail stick into the bottom of the head being very careful not to break it or move the eyes or beak. Then press about 1cm of the stick into the body on the top so that the head sits nicely on the body and covers up the tops of the feathers.

Once this is completed simply sit the bird onto the nest and it is completed!
