I have created for you, a cheese penguin! Let’s be real, penguins are the best animals out there so what better thing to do than make the best animal out of one of the best foods, cheese! This penguin is simply a really cool sculpture that you can easily replicate yourselves.

Supplies

The tools you will need for creating this cheddar cheese penguin are a paring knife and a rectangular block of cheese (around 0.64 lbs.) to carve your penguin out of.

Setting Up the Design

Grab your block of cheese and paring knife. You want to place the cheese with the short side facing you. Then, you are going to start by lightly carving out the figure of the penguin and creating a blueprint on how to carve it.

Carving Out Unnecessary Chunks

Now, you are going to cut straight through the cheese and remove large portions of the cheese around the print that you don’t need. Save one part about 1 inch by 1 inch for later.

Finer Edge Trimming

Next, you are going to carve right up to the edge of the design to remove all extra cheese from the edges, leaving you with a silhouette of your penguin.

Smoothening

Remove all the cheese not being used and cut all sharp edges of the cheese so that it is nice and smooth along the edges.

Depth Carving

For the next part you will want to carve away cheese from the top of the penguin to give it depth. Make sure to have his belly and eye come out farther while his feet and wings should be much lower.

After the penguin has depth to it, add some details to its eyes, beak, and feet to make it look more like a penguin. Adding a pupil I his eye and separate toes on its feet will make it look more realistic.

Now you are going to use that block of cheese that you saved on step 2. Set it up like so.

Belly Design II

Now, you are going to carve and oval like shape for his belly. Then cut it’s width down to about 1/4 inch. Don’t make it too small of his could look a little odd.

You are now going to place his belly design on his stomach. If you want you can carve the edges of the belly design a little smoother for a more refined look.

If you would like you can create a wedge to balance the penguin on to support it.
