Check Deposit IPhone Mount #1

I am using my bank's App and part of that App is for depositing checks with my iPhone.  I love it.  It is really a time saver for me and since I am going on 78 years old, I don't really enjoy standing in long lines at the bank.  I'll never understand why the teller must leave the window and go to the back for 10 minutes after you give her a check to deposit.  I guess I'm just getting grouchy in my old age.

The only thing I don't like about using the App is it's difficult to get the iPhone camera the correct distance, frame the check on the screen, and hold the iPhone steady while clicking the shutter button.  I dreamed up a visual picture of what I wanted to make and went looking for the parts to make my dream come true.  I found a Craftsman drill press that had been laying out in the scrap pile for 5 years.  Luckily, most of it is made of aluminum, and the parts I needed had not rusted.

It is adjustable in all directions and easy to set up, lock it down once focus distance is determined.  It works great.  I plan to put some black felt on the base.  The bank wants a black background under the check.  I can live with that if it means I never have to go back to the teller window to deposit a check.

Cost of this project + $0.00  (my favorite price).
Time = about an hour

I am re-purposing this into a "Steampunk Table Lamp / Check Deposit iPhone Mount" by adding a light socket, a Victorian lamp shade, some bright brass tubing and fittings, and a gauge or two.  I can then store it in plain sight and deposit my checks using the bank app.
