Cheap/upcycled Shopping Basket Stool

Hello Instructablers!

In this instructable we are going to be making a bit of up-cycled furniture.

Its cheap, takes around 10 mins to make and uses hand tools.

It also helps tidy up your area a bit which is also a good thing.

Lets get started...

Materials

Metal shopping basket. I hope it goes without saying DONT STEAL THEM! tend to be you can find them discarded all over the place. when you do find one hopefully its not too beat up

Brush pole. I picked up one at the local hardware store for £1.50

Cable ties. Pack of 100 cost me £1 and we only use 12

Tools

A saw

Scissors

Measuring tape

Pencil

Now for this i am using one brush pole, you could make the stool taller by using 2 but keep in mind the taller you make it the less structurally strong it will be and take up more floor space as the legs splay out the way (you'll see what i mean next step)

Measure your brush pole and park it into quarters with the pencil.

Saw the pole into four pieces.

Note: If you want you can saw the legs at an angle so the ends are flush with the floor/basket but for simplicity I just cut them straight across.

Important! make sure your handles are away from the edge of your basket as you attache the legs as they will get trapped there once you cable tie the leg in place.

Keeping the leg tight in the corner cable tie it in place at the lowest horizontal wire on the side of the basket and around the vertical wire.

Repeat near the top of the basket.

Lean the handle against the leg and cable tie it to the leg.

Repeat for the other 3 corners.

Trim away any excess cable tie.

And we're done.

Its surprisingly comfortable but you can always add a pillow to it. It can double as a foot rest and (in my opinion at least) looks cool

and best of all it cost under £3 to make.
