Cheap Mini Microdermabrasion

I got this idea a while ago when I was using one of those facial scrubbers. They start at $15 and go up from there. I want nice skin, but let's face it, I'm cheap. Plus, those ones were just too big for my biggest "problem area" aka: my nose.

I happened to have an extra electric tooth brush laying around. I suppose you could use the same one for your teeth and washing your face... but sounds like a recipe for disaster if you ask me.

I had some cheap replacement heads for my tooth brush I decided I could sacrifice one for this experiment.

The first thing you want to do is get some pliers and pull out all those pesky bristles (I used small beading pliers, but regular sized might work as well). It's actually pretty easy and fun! I noticed there were little strips of copper in there as well, hope they aren't important ....

Then I got some velcro. I used the "rough" side only. I hot glued them to the head (after removing the bristles) then wiggled it around to make sure the glue wouldn't affect the mobility of it. Once the glue had set, I cut the velcro to fit.

Then I got a scrap of microfiber terry cloth and cut a small circle to fit.

Popped that baby on my old (and sanitized) toothbrush and was ready to go.

I would recommend getting your face and the cloth wet with warm water, and apply some cleanser to your face first. I also think I should have used something thicker and cut the scrubbing cloth bigger than the velcro. You could try those "cotton rounds" since that's basically what comes with those other systems.

It seems to be pretty effective, not perfect, but there is some improvement in my skin. I only used it for about 2 minutes total.

Note: expect some water splattering everywhere. I don't know how it will hold up, and don't recommend using it in the shower (unless the toothbrush was made for it). Also, most microdermanrasion systems do recommend only using every 3 days, so I would say it's best not to use it every day.

Try it out, let me know how it works for you!
