  • 1/4 drill bit
  • 3/16 drill bit

My shelf bracket had a weird piece on the end, but it was easy enough to get rid of with the help of the trusty hammer.

You need to make 3 holes in the shelf bracket. Two are for placing the bracket between the camera and tripod. One to mount the cheap iPhone case.

Measure out the 2 holes on the tripod. Notice one is larger than the other. Drill the two holes in the skinny end of the bracket (as shown in the picture).

Drill another hole in the wide end of the bracket for the iPhone case (as shown in the picture).

Bend the Bracket and Mount the Case

Mark where you want to bend the bracket. You will want to make sure that the case has plenty of room to swivel from side to side. Test this a few times before you make the bend!

Once you bent it (I used a vice to get a clean bend), it is time to mount the case. Simply drill a hole in the case, push the screw through the case and washers in this order:

Bolt ==> case - washer - bracket - washer - nut

Tighten it down enough to make the bolt be somewhat flush with the inside of the case, but loose enough that it can still turn pretty easily. Don't get it too loose or it will not hold itself in position.

You probably want to put some tape over the bolt so it does not scratch up the back of your iPhone.

Bolt Onto Tripod and Enjoy

Place the bracket over the holes in the tripod. Then place the camera on the bracket and tighten it to the tripod.

Done! Now you can enjoy a steady(er) iPhone video shoot.
