Cheap Terrarium or Aquarium Background

Hello, I bought 3 babies Giant Day Gecko (Phelsuma Grandis) but my terrarium was not big enough. So I start to build cheap terrarium. I saw in Zoo shop fancy background which looks like rock but it was very expensive so I decide to build one in this tutorial you learn how to build fancy background for terrariums and aquariums, I used usual tools and materials so you can DIY in every country

Materials

This is list of materials and tools which is mandatory.

Materials

  • Polystyrene

  • Tile adhesive

Tools

  • Sandpaper (rough, and less rough
  • Brush
  • Solder

Solder Like a Boss

Mark tiles or the desired shape on polystyrene.

And Burn creases in polystyrene.

Sanding

Sanding with sanding paper all sharp edges.

Mix tile adhesive with water and make it denser.

Than paint 4-5 layers with brush

Than sand with sand paper

Put to Terrarium

After sanding, When tile adhesive dry, you put background to terrarium and glue it with silicon and with brush paint all hidden places with adhesive.

Varnish for Toys

At the last step paint whole background with varnish for wooden toys, this will protect background against water, Beware use only varnish which can't hurt animals.

This is it, in next tutorial I will show you how to build control system for terrarium control temperature, misting, light etc... And I will make app for android, pc for monitoring and collecting data for terrarium or terrariums.
