Yummy Peas: Cheap, Fast & Delicious
Who says you can't have all three? Learn how to make an easy and inexpensive appetizer that you will love any time of day, or that your friends will love when you take it to your next potluck. I grew up eating these as a winter snack, as green peas were a seasonal vegetable in India. I have started making these at least once a week because they're healthy, fast, really easy to make, and always taste yummy - hence the name, YUMMY PEAS!
The Ingredients!
You will need:
Green Peas - in this recipe, I use one bag of frozen green peas.
Cumin Seeds - for every cup of peas, you can use about 1/4 cup of cumin seeds
Salt - to taste
Red Chili Powder - to taste
Cooking Oil

Cooking Oil
Let's Get Started With Some Oil and Cumin!
Heat some cooking oil on low heat in a pot or pan. It's best to add the seeds when the oil is well heated - you can check by throwing in a couple cumin seeds and they will sizzle right up! Once, the oil is hot, add all the seeds.
Add the Peas and Stir.
You must add the peas right after adding the cumin seeds. Then, add salt and red chili powder according to taste. If this is your first time cooking, just sprinkle a little salt and red chili powder so that it has covered the surface area of the peas in your pan. That should be about enough.
Add a little water to the peas to allow them to cook and prevent them from sticking to the bottom of the pan. You should need only about a 1/4 cup of water for every cup of green peas.

Close the Lid of the Pan
Stir the Peas From Time to Time
A cup of peas usually don't require more than 10 minutes to cook. Usually they are close to done when the water has almost all evaporated. You can stir the peas from time to time to make sure they don't stick to the bottom of the pan, and add water if they are.
Check to Taste If the Peas Are Ready and Serve!
Once all the water is gone, your peas should be ready to serve! It tastes great with some bread or toast and with a cup of tea. You can store leftovers in tupperware and re-heat them to enjoy them again.
