Cheap DIY Full Soldering Station With Helping Hands, Fume Extractor and Temperature Control
Today we will be making a soldering station with helping hands, fume extractor and temperature control. I am making this project as I could not find a device or tutorial on the internet which gave all the features for cheap
Supplies
Materials required:
- Wood or any other material for a base
- 4 wooden pegs
- 4 Alligator Clips
- Fan Regulator
- 2 Wall Sockets
- 3 Attachment Gang Box
- Cooling Fan
- 12 volt Adapter
- Solder Iron & Stand
- Wires (with plug attached)
Tools:
- Screw driver
- Cutter
- Hot glue gun
- Electric tape
Total Cost: 1103 Rupees or 15 Dollars which is the cost of a temperature controlled soldering station with stand in the market.
Create the Helping Hands
Take the wooden peg and alligator clips. Hot glue the alligator clips at the back of the peg. (See the picture to get it better) Make sure that the clip is positioned that it can clip on stuff. Do it four times.
Glue the Helping Hands on the Base
Take your base (it can be long or short according to your needs), mine is a square. Take the wooden peg and glue the other side to the base. Make sure to leave some space in the end part as the fan would also be stuck there. Stick all the pegs as shown in the picture. You might have to hold the pegs for a while.
Solder the Fan to the Adapter
Cut the wall adapter's pin and get 2 loose wires solder these wires to the fan (take care that red wire goes to red and black goes to black). Cover them with electric tape. Test if the fan works.
Glue the Fan to the Base
Glue the fan to the base with hot glue. Make sure the direction pulls air from the pegs and does not throw it.
Glue the Solder Stand
Hot glue the soldering stand to either side of the base - whichever side is more comfortable. Make sure that you can easily slide the soldering iron in and out without twisting your hand a lot.
Put the Socket & Regulator in the Gang Box
Put socket and regulator in the gang box it is fairly simple and you can easily put it in the gang box.
Wiring!
The wiring is fairly simple. You can do it with help of diagram given above.
Close the Box
Close the box and screw it.
Done!
Congratulations! You have successfully made you very own soldering station under 15 dollars!
Feel free to give you suggestions in the comments. You can also glue a steel wool pad to clean you solder on the stand.
