Supplies

Jack, spare tire, and a lug wrench

Get to a Safe Location

Get to a safe location and get your supplies ready. If you feel you are in an unsafe location - please call a non emergency police line and ask for assistance with traffic.

Loosen the Lug Nuts

Once you are in a safe location, you will need to use the lug wrench to loosen the lug nuts. In the photo I am using a 4 way lug wrench, so I had to check the fitment to make sure I had the right size. This steps takes a bit of work and you may have to stand on the lug wrench to break the tension. Remember * Righty tighty - Left loosy*

Jack Up the Vehicle

Using the jack, you will need to raise the vehicle to get the wheel off the ground. Your jack will vary depending on your vehicle but should have instructions on it. They all work basically the same. Place the jack on a jack point - this will typically be a frame rail that runs alongside the tire)

Begin to Jack Up the Vehicle

You will want to begin jacking up the vehicle until the wheel is completely off the ground.

Remove the Lug Nuts and Remove the Tire

Next you will want to finish removing the lug nuts that you loosened earlier - keep track of them because you need them to install the spare tire! Once you have them all removed, you can lift the tire off the wheel studs and set it to the side.

Put on the Spare Tire

This step is sometimes annoying since it can be a pain to line up. You will want to lift the spare tire up and align it with the studs and push the studs through the holes. You can then start putting the lug nuts back on the tire in a star pattern to hand tight.

Lower the Vehicle and Tighten the Lug Nuts

Once all the lug nuts are hand tight, you can use the jack to lower the vehicle. All jacks are different so follow the directions on the jack you are using. You will then use the lug wrench to tighten the lug nuts, again using a star pattern. Once your lug nuts are as tight as you can get them by hand, you are ready to start cleaning up. Don't forget to put all your supplies and flat tire back into your vehicle!
