Celebrate the 4th of July With Easy Door Decorations
The best door decorations is sometimes the easiest to make. This one is perfect for the Fourth of July, Flag Day, Memorial Day, and any day you want to show off some patriotism.
One of my favorite times of year is early summer when the neighbors in our small town start decorating their doors and porches in patriotic themes. There’s something about the red-white-and-blue bunting and flags for porch and door decorations that makes me smile.
This year for our front door, I looked around my studio and gathered up bits and pieces from other projects to create a simple flag decoration for our front door.
Materials and the How-To
- Paint Stirs or skinny wood pieces.
- Spray paint
- Foam Round
- American Flag
- Wreath Hanger
Our toddler Jack had ended the usefulness of our teenager’s louvered closet doors, and I kept the slats. For this project, I decided to upcycle the slats to make an American flag.
After gluing the pieces together in a fence-like shape, I spray painted the ‘slats’. With Krylon spray paint, I was able to tape off, then paint, then tape off, then paint all of the pieces in less than 30 minutes. When the spray paint was dry, I hand-painted little stars on the flag.
I tied the flag art to a foam round, and then stuck flags in the foam around the flag art. I hung the new door decoration with a wreath hanger. Whenever making new art for a door, make sure you have a hanger or something else that doesn’t puncture the door. You could void the warranty.
Hang It Up and Enjoy!
This project took me just a few hours, and definitely makes a charming statement on our front door. I hope you enjoyed this project and we’d love to hear what you think!
