Cayenne Toasts
Since I was a child we always had these delicious little snacks around Christmas and now I can't even imagine Christmas without them although you should feel free to make them any time of year. Something about the combination of spicy-sweet crunch of these makes them an addictive little snack.
To make Cayenne Toasts you'll need the following ingredients:
To make Cayenne Toasts you'll need the following ingredients:
- 2 or 3 French Bread Loaves
- 1 cup Olive Oil
- 2 teaspoons Cayenne Pepper (*this quantity usually gets doubled or tripled in our house)
- 1 1/2 teaspoons Salt
- 1 1/2 teaspoons Sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon Finely Ground Black Pepper
- 1 teaspoon Paprika
- 1 1/2 teaspoons Garlic Powder
- 1 1/2 teaspoons Onion Powder
- Preheat oven to 200F/95C degrees.
- Mix ingredients (except for the bread) and set aside.
- Cut the French bread into 1/4 inch slices.
- Place slices on un-greased baking sheets
- Lightly coat one side of each bread slice with a pastry brush, being sure to whisk the topping mixture regularly to prevent seasonings for settling.
- Dry in preheated oven until crisp, about 1 hour.
- Remove and cool.
- Enjoy!
