Cat in the Hat Cake
Fun cake, minimal colors, but totally striking! I hope anyone who attempts this has as much fun as I did. I was also quite surprised at how easy it was to execute!!
Mix Batter
Choose flavoring and completely follow the recipe. Pre/heat the oven while mixing the batter. Spray your pans well to avoid sticking and once the pan is filled half way with the mixed batter tap the pan to get out the air bubbles and put in the oven with desired time, checking frequently though.
Cake Is Cooked and Cooling. Buttercream Time!
While cake is cooling start making buttercream, I use the Wilton basic buttercream recipe! One cake is cooled start icing your cakes!
Fondanting Your Iced Cakes!
Roll out the fondant in a fondant mate, very helpful and much less messy, once the fondant is the appropriate size of coverage, gently pick it up and place it on top of the cake and start smoothing it with little paddles to avoid tearing. This step is tricky and involves patience and gentle motions!!
Start Stacking and Decorating!
Use cardboard seperations between the tiers for structure and either plastic columns or wooden dowels underneath the cardboard to prevent the heavy cake from collapsing the cake it's stacked on. Always always have a good support system in your tiered cakes!
Your Almost Done!
You have an iced, fondant covered stacked cake with a good support system inside to keep it sturdy! Start adding the finishing touch with letters for the book titles, some black edible gel for outlining etc!! Make a little fondant fish bowl for the top and your ready to present and serve your confection!!
