Cat Toys and Treats Gift Set

Hey everybody, it's Momo and today I'll be showing you how to make a cat gift set. I am obsessed with my three cats and I love making things for them. I love papering my cats and making this little gift set was so fun! This gift set includes flying mice toys, a pom pom chain, a fancy collar, and an adorable cat treat bento box. I loved making this set and putting a lot of thought into each item so that it would be unique and useful. Plus, all of these items can be made with items around the house which I think is just an added bonus! Let me know what you thought of this and if you make it!

For the flying mice:

1. Different patterns of scrap fabric

2. Scissors

3. Thread

4. Sewing needle

5. Mouse template

6. Feather template

For the pom pom chain:

1. Yarn

2. Scissors

3. Fork

4. Sewing needle

For the fancy collar:

1. An old button down shirt

2. Scissors

For the cat treat bento box:

Box template

Wet food treats

1. 2 tbsp canned cat food

2. 1 tsp flour

Dry food treats

1. 1 1/2 tbsp dry cat food

2. 2 tsp water

Tuna treats

1. 1 tbsp canned tuna

2. 1/2 tsp canola oil

3. 1 tsp flour

4. 1/2 tsp sour cream

Cheese treats

1. 1 tbsp flour

2. 1 tbsp shredded cheese

3. 2 tsp sour cream

4. 1 tsp almond meal

Print out and cut the templates linked in the previous section.

Trace the templates onto the fabric. Use fabric A for the base, fabric B for the sides, and fabric C for the ears and tail.

Put both fabric B pieces right side together and sew a 1/4' seam along the edge.

Sew fabric A with 1/4" seam to the bottom of fabrics B. Leave a 1" hole in the back of the mouse body.

Put the mouse inside out.

Take cotton balls and tear them apart so you have a big pile of fluff.

Stuff the cotton into the hole in the back of the mouse until it's full.

Take the strip of fabric C and sew the long edge.

Pull the strip inside out and knot the end.

Sew the opposite end inside the back of the mouse as you hand sew the back closed.

Fold fabric C for the ears in half and sew the bottom to the front of the mouse.

Add eyes and a nose to the mouse.

Cut out the feather templates and trace onto two different colors of felt.

Cut out the shapes and place them on the mouse however you like.

Hand sew the feathers onto the mouse.

Cut a small piece of yarn and place it in between the prongs. We'll call this piece A.

Begin wrapping the yarn around the fork so you have several layers.

When you are content with the size of the layers, pull piece A over all of the layers and tie it.

Slip the yarn off of the fork and tighten the knot. When it is as tight as it can get, double knot it so it stays in place.

Cut all of the loops on either side of the yarn ball.

Fluff the pom pom out and trim the edges so that it is even all the way around.

Make two more pom poms so you have a large, medium, and small one.

String yarn through a large needle and poke through the middle of the large pom pom.

When you pull the string through, knot it at the top so it doesn't slide around on the chain string.

Put another knot about 1 1/2" from the large pom pom and string the medium one onto the string.

Knot the top of that one and repeat with the last pom pom.

Knot the end of the string so it doesn't unravel.

Lay the old shirt flat and flip up the collar.

Cut along the edge so that you cut the collar and the first button.

Fold the collar back over the button strip and button it up.

Slip over your cat's neck and take some cute pictures!

Get a small can of wet cat food and stir it well.

(I didn't do this in the first batch, but I highly suggest it) Combine 2 tbsp of the cat food with 1 tsp of flour.

Spoon small mounds of the batter onto parchment paper.

I suggest making 10 treats for each flavor, 40 in total.

Scoop out 1 1/2 tbsp of cat food and crush in a small container.

After you have a powdery substance, add 1 tbsp of water and mix well.

Scoop small amounts of dough and place on the tray.

Mince a small amount of ccheese and measure out 1 tbsp.

Mix cheese and 2 tsp of sour cream until you have a thick, smooth paste.

Add 1 tbsp flour and 1 tsp almond meal to the paste and mix until a dough forms.

Break off a small piece and knead it in your fingers.

Line small balls up on the parchment paper and press them down lightly.

Open a can of tuna and add 1 tbsp to a small container with 1/2 tsp canola oil, 1 tsp flour, and 1/2 tsp sour cream.

Mix everything together and knead small amounts in your fingers.

Add the mounds to the tray with the other treats.

Put the oven on 350 and set a timer for 20 minutes.

After 20 minutes, take the tray out and remove all of the treats except for the wet food.

Put the tray back in the oven for 10 minutes to bake the wet food treats.

After the time is up, let the treats cool then peel them off and add them to the other treats.

These treats made the whole house smell very bad! If you want to make this, make sure that the windows are open to air out the scent.

Print out the box template and cut the pieces out.

Fold along the lines of both boxes and begin to assemble.

Glue the whites tabs and attach them to the adjacent side.

Glue the tabs around the edge of the box and fold them over the sides.

Glue the blank background to the blank box and glue the background with text to the box with text.

Glue the two strips in half and cut the solid line.

Slip them together so you have a cross that fits into the box.

Cut a piece of parchment paper that fits into the box base.

Add the cross and treats and you're done!

Cheese and tuna treats can be stored in a dry place for up to 2 weeks.

And that's all there is to it! I think this gift set is absolutely adorable and useful. Giving it as a gift to an owner is so much fun, and seeing how much the cat(s) enjoy it, it's so worth it! Even if you don't make the whole set, this is still a fun project and I enjoyed creating these little items.
