Cat Soft Basket Bed

Hello everyone. This is my first instructable and I would like to share the creation of a cat bed made for one of my cats, since he doesn't like any of the ones he has and prefers a backpack left on the floor; his favorite "bed" at the moment and I don't have the heart to remove it. I want him to finally have a bed that he really likes, so I took some fabric scraps I had and based on the measurements and shape of the backpack he sleeps in to make one.

Supplies

  • Threads
  • Fabric (2 types of fabric):
  • Sherpa fleece (inner part of the bed)
  • Waterproof canvas (external part of the bed)
  • Measuring tape
  • Scissors
  • Stuffing (use the stuffing of your choice, I used siliconized stuffing)
  • Sewing machine or needles to sew the fabrics together
  • Markers or chalk
  • Zipper
  • Bias or bias binding

OUTSIDE OF THE BED (with canvas):

  • 1 segmented rectangle A
  • 2 rectangles B
  • 1 rectangle C
  • 1 rectangle D

INSIDE OF BED (with Sherpa fleece):

  • 1 segmented rectangle A
  • 2 rectangles B
  • 1 rectangle C
  • 2 rectangle E

Using two (2) E rectangles of sherpa fleece fabric:

  • Sew zipper:

Mark zipper length on both fabrics and add one (1) cm to that length, on each side.

Sew one side of the zipper to a rectangle, both facing each other, do the same with the other side of the zipper and the second rectangle.

Then sew leaving 1 cm seam allowance from the edge and sew around both rectangles having them facing each other (right side with right side of both rectangles fabrics) to close the cover.

Turn over.

Sewing Bed Walls

  • Sew all outer rectangles by joining each side of rectangle right side to right side of fabric:

  • A with B, B with C, C with B, B with A

  • Sew all inner rectangles by joining each side of rectangle right side to right side of fabric:

  • A with B, B with C, C with B, B with A.

  • Join the resulting "doughnuts" on the right side of the fabric of each "doughnut" and sew 1 cm from the edge.
  • Turn over
  • Sew 1 cm from the edge to close the wheel, leaving space for stuffing.
  • Fill

Sewing Bed Bottom

Sew the edge of the D rectangle to the bottom edge of the seam from the previous step, joining the D rectangle and the outer wall of the bed on the right side of the fabric, sewing with a 1 cm seam allowance.

Well, it's my other cat who started using it, even though he is much bigger than my other cat (the inspiration for this bed).
