Cat Feeding System

Have a cat at home and want to do a little project. This is a fun and simple project in which you can make a cat feeder with some materials that can be found around the house.

Supplies

  • A Sports Cone
  • Handles from a Gift Bag
  • Tissue
  • String
  • 2 Pieces of Paper
  • Tape
  • A knife
  • Cat Food
  • Small Plastic Container
  • Little plastic figure(toy character)
  • Ruler
  • Textbook

Get Handles From Gift Bag

First, you are going to have to get a gift bag of any sort and rip off the handles attached to the bag. These will be used to connect and hold up the cat feeder.

Attach the Handles to Your Cone

Next, you are going to grab your cone. Some cones have four holes at the ends, but if not it is possible to make your own holes in the cones. The handles will go through the holes. 1 handle will go through 2 holes. Pull-on the Handles to make sure they are tightly in.

Cut Out Hole in Cone

Then, you are going to have to take a knife and cut a hole out on the top of the cone. If you are too young, I recommend having a parent help.

Add 1 Piece of Paper on the Inside of the Cone

Now fold the paper into a cone shape and slip it down the inside of the cone. Then allow the paper to take the shape of the cone.

Make a Tube

Now take the next piece and make it into the smallest tube possible. Add 2 pieces of tape on the insides of the paper with the sticky part facing outward. Slip the tube down the cone and through the hole until the tip of the tube is at the end of the cone and tape it to the inside. This will help so the food doesn't fly out.

Add Container to Hold It Up

Now take your small plastic container and tape it while it is upside down to the handles. Tape the part from one handle to one side of the container and the other part of the other handle to the opposite side that you taped the first. They should be on one side, but close to the corners of the container on the side. Now it can be held by the container and you don't have to hold any other part, they won't fall out.

Attach String to Tissue and Add Food

Now take a tissue and put a hole in the middle where you will tie a knot with your small plastic figure. Gently place it into the cone and add food. When the food is added make sure you can see your plastic figure on top of it. Make sure the string goes through the cone and out of the bottom tube.

To Hold It Up and Completion

There are many things that can be used to hold up your cat feeder. I used a ruler and a textbook. You can slide the ruler through the gap between the cone and the container and let it rest on the ruler. The textbook will be placed at the end of the ruler to make sure it doesn't fall. You can also then tape from one side of the rule, over the container, and to the other side of the ruler. Your cat feeder is now completed. Pull the string through the tube for the food to come out.
