Cat Bed From Rags

Make your cat happy by turning a pile of old rugs into a comfy cat bed.

Supplies

  • a pile of rugs (preferably t-shirts, socks, knitted fabric);
  • crochet hook 6-9 mm;
  • fabric scissors

Preparing the Yarn

Cut your rugs into long strips about 1 cm wide. Wind into balls (I made 2 balls - black one made from socks, pink one made from t-shirts).

Crocheting the Bottom Part

Crochet chain 2, insert your hook into the second loop from the hook and crochet 6 single crochets into it. - it's your row 1.

You can crochet in one color if you like, I used 2 colors for better clearness. If you use 2 colors - just make loop 1 at the end of each row, attaching another color.

Row 2. Make an increase (2 single crochet in 1 loop) in each loop (you'll get 12 stitches at the end of the row)

Row 3. One increase, one single crochet - till the end of the row (18 stitches).

Row 4. 1 increase, 2 single crochets till the end of the row (24)

Keep increasing the number of single crochet stitches by one each year, till the bottom reaches the required size. In my case, I needed 18 rows.

Connecting the Bottom Parts

Turn your work upside down.
Take an old t-shirt and cut from it a circle about 2-3 cm wider than your crocheted circle. Apply the fabric circle over your work. Poke the fabric and the crocheted detail with your hook on the edge, crocheting through the last row, into every stitch of it. Connect the fabric and your crocheted detail together.

It's not necessary to add the t-shirt fabric part, you can make a cat bed without it, but it will make cleaning the cat bed a lot easier.

Making the Sides.

Crochet in a circle until you reach the desired height of the sides, simple single crochet stitches. To make the sides a bit stiffer, I used so-called tapestry or jacquard crochet technique, 1 yarn thread is carried inside the stitches (also it makes switching the color easier, just pick the desired color when you need it and put the other one inside the stitches). Let your customer fit the bed for better performance. When you reach the needed height, just tighten a knot, cut the yarn and hide the tails of the yarn inside of your work.
