Cassette Headphone Wrap
Everyone hates tangled headphones. But no one hates them as much as I do. I decided that it was about time to create something to stop my headphones getting knotted in my pocket or bag. I thought a cassette headphone wrap would be the coolest way to do this.
Reference Images
I felt like I wanted my headphone wrap to be made of something musical. I decided that a cassette would look best. I had lots of reference images to hand at all times through this build. You should also have a real cassette nearby as it comes in handy.
Cutting
You should first measure the size of wood you want. I looked for a thin piece so that it wasn't too bulky and would easily fit in my bag or pocket. They were roughly 50mm length and 35mm width and 6mm high. Once they were cut and marked out, I cut them with a saw.
Sanding
I sanded the top and bottom first to make sure that the wood was flat and free from marks. Then the edges of the wood were sanded to give a rounded edge look. You should use different grits of sandpaper to get the best results.
The Sandwitch
For the next part you need to assemble the "sandwich". First mark the centre of one of the pieces of wood. Once you have marked the centre drill two holes for where the reals of tape would be. Then countersink a hole for the screw. After that I drilled a pilot hole in a dowel. I then proceeded to screw it all together.
Filler
I used car body filler as it was the closest thing to hand. However it would probably be better for you to use wood filler. This was just to fill in the countersunk hole so the surface looks flat.
Painting
Then the whole piece was coved in 3 layers of white acrylic paint. After making sure no wood was showing and the paint was dry I applied tape. The tape makes the areas I want to keep white and leaves the pieces I painted with black acrylic showing. I then painted both sides of the cassette.
