The best tools for cutting cardboard include, E-xacto craft knives, cardboard saws and cardboard electric cutters. All of these make very exact cuts and they don't fray the edges. Set yourself a budget and buy some of these great tools.
Measurement

Measuring cardboard accurately is extremely important in your builds. When looking for a measurement device, find a bendy ruler or yard stick. This helps you measure over the curves of the cardboard because sometimes it naturally warps.
Glue

The golden rule of cardboard is to use the right glue. Hot glue is the only glue that actually works decently. Although it can be a little risky with the extreme heat of the glue, it is worth it! (Recently I burned myself with the hot glue at 210 degrees!) Using hot glue is also beneficial because it is easy to paint over.
Cardboard
When building with cardboard, use the right kind. Never use the thin cardboard like cereal boxes. It is too flimsy and doesn't hold up well. The best kind of cardboard, surprisingly, is the amazon boxes that come with your orders. this cardboard is about 3/8 inch thick and works like a charm.
