Here is a model city made out of just cardboard. How nice you want it to be is up to you. I just did a fairly basic city with seventeen buildings. So let's begin!

Supplies

  • Glue
  • Tape
  • Cardboard
  • Scissors
  • Supplies for decorating (markers, pens, etc.)

The Foundation

Grab and cut a thicker piece of cardboard – like corrugated cardboard – into the size that you want. Then lay out your city in a basic way by starting with the roads.

Constructing the Buildings

You can construct a building into whatever shape you want. I did some traditional ones and some modern/futuristic ones. But for a traditional one, make marks on a piece of cardboard every inch four times. Then fold at the marks. Then you just glue/tape the ends together. Next, you'll need to trace the outline of your building on another piece of cardboard so that you can attach a roof to your building. Cut the piece of cardboard you outlined, and glue/tape it to the top.

Decorating

You can decorate however you want, but decorate the foundation of your city before anything is glued to it yet. It's easier that way. Same with the buildings, decorate before gluing to the base. Once you are ready just glue the buildings to the spots where you want them on the foundation.

I decorated by adding colors to the skyscrapers, details to the roofs, gardens to the foundations, fountains to the foundation, and designs/color for the sidewalk/pavement.

And You're Finished

It only has to be as complicated as you want it to be. You also can choose how big or small you want your model to be. But that's it. I hoped you liked this tutorial.
