My heater is in a corner and blows all the hot air out next to our sliding glass door, so I made a heat deflector/redirector to move the air into the center of the room instead. I tried a plastic one from Home Despot first, but it melted and deformed in 20 minutes into an unusable lump of plastic 🤔
Cardboard + aluminum duct tape + magnets = perfect solution and was basically free since I already had the supplies.

- cardboard box(es)
- razor blade knife
- packing tape (or whatever tape you have)
- aluminum duct tape
- rare earth magnets
- measuring tape/ruler
Full Directions
- Measure the height and width of the heater vent
- Cut out 2 matching rectangles of cardboard
- one side of the rectangle is the distance you want the redirector to extend from the wall
- the other side of the rectangle is a little more than half the width of the heater vent
- Round one edge of the rectangle to create the curve of the redirector (I traced a large jar to get a smooth curve)
- Measure the distance from one corner, along the curve, to the other corner
- Cut out another rectangle of cardboard
- one side of the rectangle is the height of the heater vent
- the other side of the rectangle is the distance measured in step 4
- Pre-bend the rectangle from step 5 to make it easier to tape to the side pieces
- Tape the rectangle (from step 5) to the 2 side pieces (from step 2) with packing tape on the inside only so it doesn't look ugly when it's installed
- Use aluminum tape to securely connect the sides to the back (also on the inside only - no ugly things allowed, lol)
- Cover the entire inside of the vent with aluminum tape
- Tape 4 magnets, using aluminum tape, very close to the edges of the side pieces so it will stick to the metal heater vent
- Clip it on, and enjoy getting all snuggly with some cats in your lap.
