Cardboard Dragon Head

This is a fun cardboard dragon head project. Depending on how you scale the head it can be anything from a mask for costume to hand puppet. Personally I've made the dragon head for both occasions. I hope you have as much fun making the dragon head as I have.

Supplies

- plain white paper

- pencil

- scissors

- cardboard

- sharpie

- box cutter or exacto knife

- rubber cement

- black construction paper

- red construction paper

- hot glue

- brass fasteners

Step One: Outline the Dragon Head on White Paper

1a. Draw the outer layer of the dragon head

1b. Cut out the paper outer layer of the dragon head

1c. Trace the paper outer layer of the dragon head on second piece of paper as reference for the inner layer of the dragon head

1d. Draw the inner layer of the dragon head with the outer layer of the dragon head outline reference

1e. Erase the reference of outer layer of the dragon head

1f. Cut out the inner layer of dragon

When you put it all together you have the paper outline of the dragon

Step 2: Make the Cardboard Pieces

2a. Take the paper outlines and trace it on the cardboard

2b. Flip the paper outlines and trace it again on the carboard

2c. Take paper outline of the outer layer and cut out details of the outer layer

2d. Take the outer layer detail outlines and trace it on the cardboard

2e. Cut out the cardboard pieces of of dragon head

When you put it all together you have the cardboard outline of the dragon

Step 3: Color the Cardboard

3a. Take the carboard pieces of inner layer and outer layer details and cut and paste a black paper on top of the carboard

3b. Take the cardboard pieces of the outer layer and cut and paste a red paper on top of the cardboard

You should be left with all the cardboard pieces colored

Step 4: Put It All Together!

4a. Hot glue all the colored cardboard together

4b. On another piece of cardboard draw the top (trapezoid) and bottom (triangle) connecting piece. Make sure that the width of top connector piece is bigger than the bottom

4c. Trace and cut the bottom and top connector pieces on red and black paper respectively. And cut light slits on the cardboard connecter pieces

4d. Hot glue the bottom pieces together

4e. Hot glue the top pieces together

4f. Poke a hole in where the top and bottom parts with connect together and insert a brass fastener on both sides

4g. Hot glue the end of the fastener from the inside to hold it in place
