This allows you to use recycled cardboard to make a twenty sided dice, great for games like D&D.

Supplies

Supplies:

Cardboard (From Recycling/ Old Boxes)

Tape

Scissors

Glue (Either Glue like Elmer's Glue or a Glue Stick)

Toothpick (If you are using Elmer's Glue)

Colored Paper (Great if you have colored paper in recycling, or you can just use white paper)

Pencil or Marker

Cutting Out Cardboard Triangles

First, measure out an equilateral triangle on a piece of cardboard. I measured an equilateral triangle with sides 3 inches in length, but you can choose a different size for a different sized dice.

Once you measure and trace the equilateral triangle on the cardboard cut it out. You will use it as a template to trace the other triangles.

Keep using the template to trace 19 other equilateral triangles on cardboard, and then cut them all out.

Assembling Dice 1

Start By Placing the first triangle with one point facing downwards, and then add a triangle pointing out away from each side of that triangle like shown in the picture. Then use tape on the side facing up to connect the triangles. I put one piece perpendicular to the crease and another parallel with the crease so that it was well connected.

Assembling Dice 2

Next, I added a triangle pointing down off of the two lower triangles and two off of the open sides of the top triangle as shown in the picture. Then, on the lower two triangles from the first assemble step add a triangle with one side connecting to the open side of each of those triangles. Use tape like before to connect them.

Assembling Dice 3

IMG_0113.jpg

Now that you have three sections going off of the original triangle, you are going to connect the sections by bending them up at the joint where they connect to the center triangle, and using tape to connect the triangles to each other.

Next you add a upwards pointing triangle to the top side of each of the triangles forming the bowl shape. Make sure you are adding the tape to the inside you that you can bend the triangles inwards at the joints.

Assembling Dice 4

Now look at the bowl shape from the top and find the direction around the bowl that is clockwise. You will add a triangle to 1 side of every other one of the top layer of triangles, with the new triangles oriented so that they are all pointing upwards and clockwise.

Now you will connect the just added triangles to the triangles from the previous layer that did not have the triangles added to them already. This should leave one open space at the top. Add the last triangle to that space, trying to tape it on the inside as best you can, and then taping it on the top for extra support. Next, start taping the triangles together from the top as best you can from extra support.

Making the Numbered Faces

Start by measuring equilateral triangles of the same size as the cardboard ones, or a little smaller, on colored paper and cut them out.

Adding the Faces 1

Draw a 1 on one of the triangles, and then add that to the triangle at the top of the dice. You can glue the face on using a glue stick, or you can get Elmer's glue. If you use Elmer's glue it might be a good idea to use a toothpick to spread glue on the back of the paper. Next flip the dice over to the triangle face opposite the 1 face and repeat the same process to add the 20 face to that top face.

Adding the Faces 2

Add the numbered faces shown around the 20 face.

Adding the Faces 3

IMG_0126.jpg

Turn the dice so that the 14 face is the top face, and add the faces shown.

Adding the Faces 4

Next add the 16 face in the position shown

Adding the Faces 5

Now add the 18 in the position shown

Adding the Faces 6

Now flip it back over so the 1 is on top, and add the 7, 19, and 13 oriented as shown in the image.

Adding the Faces 7

Now add the 17 and 3 as shown in the image.

Adding the Faces 8

Now add the 10 and 12 faces as shown in the picture

Adding the Faces 9

Now add the 11 and 9 faces as oriented in the picture

Congratulations!

You have finished the dice!
