Cardboard Chair

IMG-1793.jpg

I used extra cardboard and upcycled it to create a cardboard chair for my computer science teacher, Dr. White. Originally, I planned to hand cut out the cardboard pieces, but then I realized I could laser cut it out. I made a smaller version because if I were to make a real life size one it would take a lot more cardboard and would also not be able to fit in the laser cutter. Mine was about 12in x 6 in. I perfected my design in Canva and laser cutted it out to create the cardboard chair.

Create Your Design on Canva

I used lines and circles to create the exact design I wanted on Canva.

Use InkScape to Create the Outline of Your Figure

First I downloaded my Canva design and then I imported it into InkScape. After that I clicked on Path and pressed trace Bitmap. Then I took the new design and put the fill in as clear.

I Used Glowforge.com to Actually Lasercut My Design

After I made the outline, I downloaded it as a SVG and then I signed into Glowforge. After getting the Laser Cutter ready, I placed the outline where I wanted it and printed it.

Print Multiple Cutouts of Cardboard

Continue to print more of the same sized cutouts of the chair.

Glue the Pieces Together Using Hot Glue

Once you have printed enough to make your chair thick enough to make the chair have structure. Then use hot glue to glue all the pieces together, until you are completed with the chair.
