Cardboard Cat Box Surprise
Due to the pandemic, I have had a lot of packages from Amazon. These boxes have been strewn around the house, and I needed something to do with them. Well, it turns out that my 2 cats love to sit around in them. I decided to try to put these boxes together into a little house for them. Here is what I did, and here is how I did it:
Supplies
- Cardboard boxes, of course
- scissors or x-acto knife
- hot glue
- maybe some tape
- Optional:
- cheap go-pro/small camera with live stream feature
- cord to charge it
Putting the Boxes Together
Here you can see that I had 3 boxes to start with, I had a big box that the cats can lay in when the box is closed, another slightly smaller box, and a tiny box for the top. You could really do anything you want. Now that you have a plan for what to do, you need to execute. First, tape the big and medium boxes closed, you should leave the top box open. Now, you want to first note where you want your holes to be. The image with the arrow shows where my holes are. I used a sharpie to mark them in real life. I first put the medium box on top of the bottom box, and drew an outline so I could cut the hold in the right spot. My hole was about 5.5 to 6 inches from the medium box into the bottom box. Now I cut the hole in both the bottom of the medium box, and in the top of the bottom box. Then I lined up the boxes, and used my hot glue to glue the boxes together. After I did this, I put the top box on the opposite end of the whole I made, and laid it out with the flaps laid out over the medium box. I then cut a hole the size of the inside of the small box, to make it an entry point. After this, I glued the boxes together with the laid out flaps. Make sure to cut the flaps off the top of it. So that is how I completed my original Cat Box Suprise.
The Update
After a while of just the three boxes, It was getting a little boring. Soon, we were in need of a new air fryer, so we bought a toaster oven air fryer. It came in a nice big box, even with a carry hole which instantly turned into a peep hole once the cats figured out how to get in. I decided to make it into the first extension of the Cat Box Surprise. Step one was aligning it with the original. I lined it up so that the non peep hole side was against the side opposite of the entry point. I then cut a hole in the side, pretty long so that it would be able to connect with wherever the hole was on the original. I then made a little arch in the original, and I intended to keep it as a flap, but I decided to remove the flap since I wouldn't really see it, and because it was a little in the way for the cats. Then came my biggest problem. The cats loved to sit on top. This is a problem because the top would not support the weight of the cat. I solved this by taking one of those cardboard holders for the air fryer and gluing it on top. Now, also in the top, I cut a hole that is just big enough for the cats to stick their heads through. It ends up being really funny sometimes. They don't usually stick their heads through, usually just their paw, but its very funny. My final step in the cardboard part of this is to put these 2 creations together. I glued them about 3-4 times, but since the box was so big, it never really stuck. I just end up trying to push them together whenever I can.
The Camera
Now that the cardboard part is done, I remembered that I had a little knockoff go-pro. The coolest part about this, is that it has a wifi mode. I can connect to it with my phone just by connecting to its wifi. So it took me a while to get the angle, but I cut a small hole with a little flap on the bottom and a little stick of cardboard to keep it from falling in. Then I plugged it in so that it will always be on whenever I need it. Now, whenever I am close to it, I can see inside with my phone. It makes it all the more funny.
