Cardboard Car Cup Holder

Did you know you can make a cup holder using only cardboard and tools?

PROBLEM: According to Quora, most cars made only come with 2-3 cup holders, and some even come with none at all. Have you ever bought too many drinks and only had 2-3 available cup holders open?

Here is a simple way to make a Realible Cup Holder at home!

Supplies

-A Reusable Piece of cardboard( get a pretty good chunk of it to make layers).

-Scissors (to cut out the pieces)

-Tape/Glue(to put together)

-Measure Tool(to measure how big is suitable for your cup)

-Pencil/Color Pencils(In case you want to decorate your cup holder)

Cutting It Out

Before we can start taping we will need our cutouts. Using your measuring tool, measure out your strip of cardboard. The measurements I used were 4” tall and 12” in length. This will allow me to have enough space to connect both of them. I recommend making 2-3 of these strips just to make the cup part sturdier. Later start cutting out a base(circle) to put your straps on. Using your measuring tool measure out a Suitable diameter that will work with the cup/s you want to use. I used a diameter of 5".

After you are done cutting and measuring out all the dimensions it is time to put it together. Before you start, if you are interested in decorating your cupholder I recommend doing it now so it wouldn’t be much trouble later on. Start by taping your cardboard strips together and make sure they are well taped(this will make your holder stronger). After your stripes are taped together, start to tape them on the circle to then make a cup-shaped shape. Connect both sides of the strips so that the drink doesn't fall out of the cup holder. After you're done it should look like the pictures above.

STEP 3

Now it's time to make the mount/handle to hold your cup holder on your car. What I did was make an L-shaped handle design with 3 layers to make it nice and stable. I had to make sure that the holder could be mounted somewhere on a vehicle. I also had to make sure that it wouldn't fall apart or in other words make sure it was sturdy or reliable enough to hold a drink. After making a handle I made sure that I taped it to a point that it will not break or fall apart. You could find out by testing it out on your preferred place in your vehicle.

PART 4

I then taped the handle with the cup. I put one side of the L-shaped handle on the inside of the cup and taped it. After taping it, it should look something like the pictures above.

After finishing up, you will then need to figure out a place to put your cup holder. I decided to use the glove compartment to put my cup handle in. My plan was the open the glove compartment, put a side of the L-shaped holder inside, and then close it up. This will result in the cup holder hanging outside the glove compartment.
