Cardboard Bridge

IMG_5564.jpeg

This is a bridge created from 3D printing, as well as cardboard. We chose this because we wanted to go with a design based around a piece of architecture. Therefore, we decided on a Parker Bridge.

Supplies

You will need:

  1. Cardboard
  2. 3D Printer
  3. Autodesk Inventor
  4. Scissors
  5. 3D Printer
  6. Hot Glue Gun
  7. Pencil
  8. Makerbot Print App

Designing

First, sketch out your bridge on Autodesk Inventor similar to the first picture. Once done, extrude the inner areas and bottom. You will then want to sketch and extrude a "roof" over the bridge before drawing the pattern you want above it and cutting it once again.

Export the Bridge file as a .stl file and put it into the Makerbot Printer App. From there, select the printer you will be using and export it into a USB drive. Plug the USB drive into your desired printer and print!

Cutting Cardboard

While waiting for the printer to finish printing, grab a sheet of cardboard. Cut it into small squares.

Hot Glue the Pieces

Use Hot Glue to glue the small squares into groups of 3. This will be your support beam for the bridge.

Assemble Onto Bridge

Use the Hot Glue to glue the cardboard support beams onto your bridge. Ensure there is one for each side of the bridge.
